Meet Fran McDaniel

Clinical & Community Herbalist

Fran McDaniel is a clinical and community herbalist living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She studied energetic herbalism under Suzanna Stone at Owlcraft Healing Ways from 2021 to 2024, and completed an internship at Red Moon Herbs in Asheville, NC in 2022.

Fran has been leading educational workshops in energetic herbalism since 2023, and has been practicing clinically since 2025. You may know Fran from her time working behind the counter at Carytown Teas between 2021 and 2026, often concocting bespoke herbal tea blends on the spot for whomever needed them.

Fran’s approach, both to clinical work and to teaching, is informed by the principles of reciprocity, curiosity, and compassion. Fran believes that the plants are our teachers, and that our relationships with the plants, ourselves, and each other are central to individual and collective health.

Why Naturopathy

What does it mean to work with a Clinical Herbalist?

Clinical herbalists make customized herbal formulas and care plans tailored to the specific needs of each individual. In session, I will ask you questions about your health, feelings, and daily life. Informed by what you share in our conversation, I construct your herbal protocol. You then integrate the herbs into your daily life for a while, and pay attention to how you feel. We will set a time to check back in to see what has shifted for you and what new things have arisen. I will adjust your protocol as needed. Then, we repeat this process until you feel like you no longer need my support. It's a similar to commitment to something like physical therapy; I craft and hold a supportive container for you while you dig into the depths of your internal work.

Testimonials

“I was skeptical of herbalism before I worked with Fran. Working with her was a pivotal part of my grieving process at its peak. She was kind, patient, and knowledgeable about her craft, and I've continued to reach out to her for her help with a variety of ailments.”
